Breaking News: Senate Committees

Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey has named his committee chairs:

  • Finance, Ways & Means: Randy McNally
  • Environment: Tommy Kilby
  • Commerce: Steve Southerland
  • Education: Jim Tracy
  • State & Local Government: Bill Ketron
  • General Welfare: Rusty Crowe
  • Government Operations: Thelma Harper

There are a few more, but I didn’t get the rest. The most important is to know that Sen. McNally will, in fact, chair Finance, Ways, and Means. That’s significant for a number of reasons, not the least of them that any change in the way schools are funded would have to be approved in Finance.

Yeah, Randy!!

  1. Kilby has some favor huh, though he is a lame duck. Good for him. That should put to rest the speculation as to his motive to not seek re-election. Ramsey at least trusts him to do the right thing.

  2. Jacket:

I have to disagree with you here, I’ll put money on 8×10 glossies at some point and who knows of what. This is a bone because he will not use it as a stepping stone to another position. He’s toast with his reputation.

  3. What has caused him to be “toast” with his reputation? Supporting this Governor? Sponsoring Haley’s Law? Getting a new prison built in East TN. in his district where they actually want it?

The answer to his leaving is he worked at a part-time job, earning $18k per year, it took nearly $350K to run and retain that position, with constant fund raisers. He had a “public job” that he spent more time there handling Senatorial duties and he couldn’t get that job done for this distraction.

In other words the egg he produced as a Senator was not worth the wear and tear on its butt.
