David Bradshaw, Lou Dunlap, and Leonard Abbatiello have announced that they’re NOT running for City Council in the June election.
Here’s the press release.
So, as speculated at the end of my previous post (just scroll down), how might these three members of Council be expected to vote on the budget, knowing that they will not face approval (or disapproval) by the voters in June?
I don’t know. Rather, I know how Abbatiello will vote, but I don’t know how Bradshaw and Dunlap may vote.
Both David and Lou surprised me greatly last year; I do know that both understand and appreciate the value of having a great school system. I’m hopeful that they will feel liberated by this decision, and that they will feel a greater allegiance to protecting our greatest asset than to the rigidity of the strategic plan, or the small faction of voters who want lower taxes at any cost.
I hope they understand the harm that was done last year, and choose not to perpetuate it.
Netmom, maybe it’s time for you to change hats. You have done an excellent job for the students and citizens of Oak Ridge in your capacity as a school board member. Perhaps it is time for you to consider representing Oak Ridgers as a member of council.
I for one would be happy to campaign for you.
I’m flattered, but I have unfinished business on the School Board, and that’s really where my heart is.
Your heart may be able to affect more positive change from a seat on council. I can’t imagine a more school friendly council person.
Dude, lets all three run, and have the internet coalition…
I agee with Daco, you might want to consider this as you might be able to accomplish more from the other side of the table. I wonder what lies ahead for Bradshaw. Maybe there is more to this than we realize, open seats other places.
For now, I believe Netmom has her priorities straight and I support her 100% in her re-election bid for the school board. Besides, she needs to hand Beta and Bro their diplomas at graduation like she did Alpha (and I need to redeem my reputation as photographer extrodinaire). There is plenty of time for other challenges and elections.
AT, I had a tooth pulled once…I ain’t running for council. I would certainly vote for you though.
I can’t argue with NM’s priorities. They are hers. I will support her in either contest.
Girlfriend, I think there is always more to a political situation than meets the eye.
AT, I’m pretty sure that there are folks just waiting for an “internet coalition” to burn at the stake as an example of violating the sunshine and ethics laws.
The new state ethics commission forms are more invasive than a visit to the gynecologist.
“The new state ethics commission forms are more invasive than a visit to the gynecologist.”
Wouldn’t know about the OB/GYN comparison, but I do agree. Further, by July, 07 local rules will be in full force and effect, or should be as they are now required.
I turned my slip in before Christmas. I almost told them how many freckles I had on my arse.
Oh, daco, jump on in the water is WARM. It is easier to arm chair qb on issues than to make them. Trust me.
Jacket, I have no doubt that you are right. I think that even you would have to admit that I have moderated my attitude in that department. I am now a kinder and gentler daco.
Fact is, over the past three and a half years, I have gained great respect for many folks that hold office and don’t see fit to follow my advice.
Good for you and yes I have noticed. It will greatly increase your life span. Those chest pains will go away more easily.
Popular decisions are easy. Taxes are never popular, but they do make schools work, police officers and fire fighters work, and roads not have pot holes. All those can be popular individually. Especially if that pot hole is in front of your house.
I’ve noticed the “kinder and gentler” Daco; I like him. Of course, there was something to admire in the old firebrand, but most of us start out that way and moderate as we go along.
Those who don’t, may be guilty of not listening to any but their own voices.
NM,
I second that Motion. At least daco mellowed enough to admit he has learned from those fire brand discussions we all enjoyed.
Admitting you have a problem is the first step to rehab. He appears to be on the way.
Don’t push your luck there Jacket. I haven’t exactly joined the ACLU pal.
No, you haven’t but give it time. That is the second step, acknowledging a higher power. When you need the ACLU they will be available. Just hope you don’t.
Now back on topic.
Why don’t you pick up a petition just for the fun of it. Let’s see who yells to high hell then daco.
Whats your deal with the ACLU, Daco? You sure seem threatened by it…
Netmom, I see what you mean about the internet coalition… hmm. Interesting. However, is there really any solid verification that can be done proving that we are who we say we are?
ATincognito
AT,
Daco is a person of his environment. He has been told lawyers are bad, observed only the bad ones in action because that is who the news reports are about, so he really doesn’t know any better.
Now that lawyer that was assisting in relocating assests the other day is a good guy. He needed help that only a lawyer could give, and got it. If he were in the same situation needing the ACLU for some Constitutional Argument he might have they would be the best thing since sliced bread. That will never be though.
Unless he runs for City Council. Which I still think he should at least pick up a petition. That would be at least intresting, MC, DG, and AAC would bark at the moon over it.
From reading the forums, here is what MC, DG, and AAC are saying about the incumbents not running.
No disrespect to the folks in the video. They are very good at what they do.

My last post was hijacked to the forums at the O.R. site by DG. I have given him sufficient warning regarding theft of my words.
Further, the AAC character has accused this site owner of “attacking him”. That is also untrue. He referred to my post above. This site adminitrator has not attacked either of these two, she has chosen to let them go.
